Watson, Winslow C. A DESCRIPTIVE AND HISTORICAL GUIDE TO THE VALLEY OF LAKE CHAMPLAIN AND THE ADIRONDACKS. Burlington: R.S. Styles' Steam Printing House, 1871. 1st edition. 147 pp. plus 24 pp. of ads, illustrated and with two folding maps, green cloth. Plum 1201. Published without the author's name on the book, but we once had a letter from Watson to James Hall in which he admitted authorship. This is an extremely important guidebook to the region. The ads in the back are of great interest in the study of tourist activity at the time. Covers worn; the two folding maps in the rear pocket have been opened a few times, but are very good with no tears. Interior is very good, with just a light damp stain to the outer margin of a few early pages. We have had a few copies in our 37 years in business, but always think our current copy will be the last we ever find. That might really be true in this case. Very good overall.
