$50.00

McCosh, James (1811-1894). Educator, author, president of the college of New Jersey (now Princeton). ALS, 2 pp., Princeton, March 9, 1872. To Dr. Cuyler, declining an invitation to speak due to his duties as college president: "From end of May to beginning of July inclusive is a most engrossing time to every president of an American college. He has to take part in... the winding up of the academic year. During that period I have declined all engagements taking me from Princeton. After the commencement I have still a week or ten days of heavy supervision of reports and correspondence. This with the heat ever leaves me so weak that I must go off to a cooler climate and to rest. The first summer I was here I tried to do some work in vacation and broke down." Fine
