Dexter, Franklin B. (1842-1920). Educator, librarian, author (many papers on Yale). ALS, 3 pp., Yale College, Sept. 30, 1886. To Dwight King, concerning his inquiry on an early attempt to establish a Professorship of French at Yale. "So far as I know, no public notice was ever taken of this supposed offer. The records... contain no allusion to it... I have, however, reason to know - from private manuscripts in possession of the college... that Mr. Silas Deane made inquiries, in 1778..." A lengthy, informative letter. Near fine.
