Shute, Henry Augustus (1856-1943). Author; noted for juvenile books about "Plupy Shute," modeled after his own childhood; sometimes called the Mark Twain of New England. ALS, 1 p., Oct. 3, 1944.  To New York autograph collector Arthur Brisbane MeGee, expressing pleasure at the opportunity to autograph his books:  "...and I thank you for the opportunity to do so." Lower right corner has a stain from a biographical entry that is no longer present, else very good. Although dated 1944, Shute died a year earlier, but the handwriting and signatureappear authentic, and the date might be the result of confusion hat his advanced age. 8.5" x 11". Very good.
