Talmage, Thomas de Witt (1832-1902). Dutch Reformed Church clergyman, editor of the Christian Herald; known as a brilliant preacher, but sometimes criticized for sensationalism. ALS, 1 p., no date. To "Dear Brother," probably his brother John Van Nest Talmage (1819-1902), but it might also be a general salutation. Thanking him for agreeing to officiate at the funeral of Mr. Ellis in his absence. Top line with the recipien's name trimmed off, else very good with a small chip in the lower right corner.
